Just received, and quickly re-read, Tinker Tailor.. by John Le Carre, from the Folio Society. It has probably been 25 years since I first read it - it's still wonderful. My favorite spy book of all time. Of course, I can only visualize the characters in terms of the BBC series, which starred Alec Guiness as Smiley. Wonder if that's available in DVD somewhere...have to go check....AHA! (see lower left). Wonderful book about betrayal with highly memorable characters!

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy
Just received, and quickly re-read, Tinker Tailor.. by John Le Carre, from the Folio Society. It has probably been 25 years since I first read it - it's still wonderful. Hi Brack- I literally just finished reading this (for the first time I might add). Fantastic! I'll be searching for the DVD next...I'd love to see Smiley come to life.
ReplyDeleteRecently, I watched the 2011 Tinker, Tailor movie, starring Gary Oldman as Smiley. Amazing cast - Colin Firth as Bill Haydon and (surprise!) Benedict Cumberbatch as Guillam. Quite a different tone than the (beloved) Guiness version, but also excellent.
ReplyDeleteJust re-read Tinker, Tailor - still wonderful - and also re-read A Delicate Truth, which I enjoyed more than the first time. I also realized suddenly how virulently ANGRY Le Carré is at corruption, greed and deceit.
