Harry Potter!
It is time to revive this blog. I've made the last 3 posts, and there's a total of just one post from nuclear family readers Noah, Will, Lauren, & Eileen.
So I'm turning to the most popular reading topic of all: Harry Potter.
I just finished Tales of Beetle the Bard. It is very short, but quite fun. Dumbledore's "commentary" is full of his witty asides. And since profits from the book go to charity, it doesn't feel like JKR is just mining old material. Strong rec to read.
Here's the prompt for blog participation:
How do you rank the Harry Potter books?
My ranking:
Azkaban (3)
Half-Blood Prince (6)
Deathly Hallows (7)
Goblet of Fire (4)
Order of the Phoenix (5)
Sorcerer's Stone (1)
Chamber of Secrets (2)
Let the debate begin.

Since I have not re-read the Harry Potter books recently, I'm going to have to guess a little at the early ones, but here is my ranking:
ReplyDeleteHalf-Blood Prince (6)
Azkaban (3)
Order of the Phoenix (5)
Deathly Hallows (7)
Goblet of Fire (4)
Sorcerer's Stone (1)
Chamber of Secrets (2)
I liked all the Harry Potter's, but if I had to rank them...
ReplyDeleteHalf-Blood Prince (5)
Azkaban (2)
Order of the Phoenix (6)
Deathly Hallows (3)
Goblet of Fire (4)
Sorcerer's Stone (1)
Chamber of Secrets (7)
Well, Will has read Beedle the Bard, so I'll make him comment!
ReplyDeleteSo, I started to make my list - quite similar to Jesse's, except I rank Order of the Phoenix as having been written by someone other than JKR!
....but as I mulled it over,I realized that I actually should rank Sorcerer's Stone as second on my list, because it was SO surprising and SO fun when it appeared that it was like a match striking dry tinder, which quickly blazed into the Harry Potter fire! ("oh, good grief", I hear everyone saying).
So, as reconsidered, here's my ranking:
Azkaban (3)
Sorcerer's Stone (1)
Half-Blood Prince (6)
Deathly Hallows (7)
Goblet of Fire (4)
Chamber of Secrets (2)
.

.
Order of the Phoenix (5) (ugh)
Cheerio
Will - are your numbers your rankings? (Others have been using the numbers to indicate HP Year/book number.)
ReplyDeleteHey all,
ReplyDeleteI read Beedle the Bard and liked it a lot. My favorite story was the Hairy Heart! I don't remember how the books are divided but:
#s=ranking, not book#
1) 1st Harry Potter book, delightful and unique
2) Azkaban
i dislike the one where harry sits around in the slytherin lady's house and does nothing
i like the goblet of fire a lot
elements i like:
- when they fly the car to Hogwarts
- Hogsmeade
- the Marauder's Map
- Hermione's time-twister necklace thing...I wish I had one!!
- the night bus
- Nearly Headless Nick
this is a very disorganized ranking, sorry. basically i like the early ones best.
