The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo
Fabulous beach-read, can't-put-it-down mystery/thriller. Instantly absorbing, interesting characters, and convincing dialog. Not totally lightweight, as suggested by the original Swedish title, "Men Who Hate Women". I think everybody would like this.

Interesting discovery about myself: I saw that the subtitled Swedish movie version of this book is now playing at the Mariemont Theater - so I looked at the trailer online and realized that some of the very violent scenes in the book, which I handled fine when reading, were likely to be (to me) unbearable when viewed on screen - think I'll give the movie a pass!
ReplyDeleteThe two main characters are really engaging....so much so that I read late last night, slept a little, then woke at 3:30 am to finish the book! I'm not sure that my body can take the next two books in the series. If you like mysteries, you definitely should get this book. We have all three in the series if you'd like to borrow them.
ReplyDeleteThere are several references in the three books to Pippi Longstocking by Astrid Lindgren - at one point, Lisbeth Salander warns Blomkvist not to compare her to Pippi! - so I decided to read Pippi Longstocking. Despite my fondness for children's books, it didn't do anything at all for me I didn't even finish it. Oh well.
